California Casual Target Finds - Shop the Look

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Although I’m Canadian and celebrate in October, I’ve been living in South Florida for the past 4 years and celebrate Thanksgiving twice a year now! Definitely won’t be complaining about that!

We’ve recently (in the past month or so) have moved into our new home which is super exciting. Waiting to do renovations and seeing what is the best options for us both financially and what’s best for our lifestyle.

The furniture we’ve accumulated throughout our rentals has not been my top choice to say the least so I am certainly itching to do some furnishing when the time is right! I’m a firm believer in mixing high and low price point furniture and decor. With that in mind, I thought a blog post with a shop the look and style guide for the California Casual design style would be perfect! As that is one of my favourite styles, I’m excited to get back into writing and share with you really great finds with fantastic reviews!

Here are some beautiful inspo images of California Casual interior design style:

Now onto these gorgeous products!

Can you just feel all these superb textures like I can through the screen?! We’ve got whicker, linen, jute, wood… all natural materials that exemplify luxury and sophistication yet the tones and shape of these items stay casual and subtle. California Casual style focuses on creating spaces that are soft and inviting, but also chic. Spaces that exude comfort with a focus on natural materials and a neutral colour palette. When colour is used (like this blue lumbar pillow) it will be in an earthy tone, think blues, greens, or terracotta with a more subdued hue to them. Bright, dramatic colours are definitely not the vibe for this style.

This style can also steer in multiple different ways as well, it may lean a bit more coastal with lighter neutrals and blue tones, or more rustic with darker woods with burgundy and olive tones! Where do you lean? Let me know in the comments below!

When opting for art within this style you can go many different ways as long as the art focuses on something in nature or uses muted tones. For example, landscapes are perfect, vintage style portraits work well, even modern abstract pieces fit this style, as long as they fall in the neutral colour palette you are good to go!

In this specific concept board, I didn’t include black iron accents but black lighting is a great way to add a bit of contrast to your space. Mixing wood tones is also a huge part in this style. When it comes to accessories, less is more in California Casual style. Keep things simple and uncluttered for a relaxed look.
