Console Table Style Guide
Your console table is the first impression someone has entering your home. Whether your entryway is small or expansive, having a nicely decorated entrance is such a nice thing to come home to or leave the house looking at. Let’s make it look effortlessly curated together!
Much like styling a coffee table, styling your console table requires different heights of decor and lighting. Today on the blog I’ll cover a how to guide so that you can apply these tips in your own home, with some of my favourite pieces and suggestions.
CONSOLE TABLE
First things first, choosing your console table. Are you looking for something light and airy or something that serves as a storage solution as well? Console tables are vary in materials, like wood, acrylic, even grasscloth! Here are some beautiful options for console tables in varying budgets.
MIRROR OR ART
Once your base is confirmed, time to choose a mirror that best fits the size of your console. I recommend taking up at least 2/3rds of the size of the console. Unless you’re going for a more eclectic look, the bigger the size mirror/art the better, this will make the area feel more grand and luxurious. Pro design tip: use less decor/objects and opt for larger, few pieces instead for a higher end look. My personal style for art are serene, calming landscape or tonal abstract pieces that exude tranquility.
LAMP
Lighting is a form of art! Be creative here, whether that is a lamp with a patterned base or lots of rough texture. Lamp shades can also be customized. Personally I love a ceramic or stone lamp, sometimes a pattern and some earthy colours like blue, green or rust.
VASE WITH GREENERY OR FLORALS
Going for a smaller vase with greenery or florals will provide you with a more understated look. Remember to keep the height of your vase in mind in comparison to your lamp. If you’re lamp is oversized, you don’t want to have your vase look too small in comparison or your table will look lopsided! With vases, again you can play around with all sorts of styles and textures. For a more rustic feel, opt for a vase with terracotta! Check out my blog post for some of my favourite vases here.
BOOKS
Books are a great way to add height to decorative objects and showcase some of your interests. Whether that be fashion travel, architecture or (of course!!) interior design, books are always a great addition to a console table! Be mindful of the cover of these books, opt for neutral and calming covers for a cohesive look with the rest of your selections.
DECOR
There are so many different types of decor, whether you opt for something old or new, modern or vintage. Stick to 1-3 objects here in various heights to draw the eye to the different levels on your console table. A tray or bowl of some sorts is ideal on a console as a catch all for keys and nicknacks.
