What is Sabina Interior’s Signature Style? + A Style Combo I am LOVING Right Now!

This is kind of a trick question to be honest. Because I actually don’t have only one style, I have many.

If you have been following me for a while you’ll know that I often tell my audience that it’s ok to mix styles, I actually encourage it! Why? Because it provides dimension and interest. When spaces become too of the same, like buying a furniture set or using only one colour, it becomes boring, well at least in my opinion! In this context, style refers to interior styles such as coastal, mid-century modern, transitional, boho, California casual and more.

MY AESTHETIC

So back to the main question of this blog post, while I don’t have only one “interior design style”, I do have an aesthetic, and this I keep consistent in every design that I do. Words to describe my studio would include refreshing, balanced, bright, airy and neutral.

I also love to use contrast in my designs and incorporate pops of black with clients who lean more modern. Clients who lean more traditional or coastal, tend to like softer tones. When I do use colour, I use muted, organic tones. With the exception of blue. Ahh blue, I love using blue as a lot of my clients love Serena & Lily and that coastal (not nautical!) feel.

FAVOURITE STYLES & MY OWN STYLE

What’s my all-time favourite interior design styles you may ask? I’d say California Casual. I find it funny because I grew up in Toronto, Canada, but I absolutely love this style and it’s not typically seen here. Hence why e-design is a wonderful option for me, haha! The reason why I love California Casual is because it uses natural materials, and the blend of textures brings character and visual interest into the space.

For my own home, my space is considered warm modern. To bring a beachy vibe into my condo in the city doesn’t sit right with me. I feel that I have to incorporate the surroundings/where I live into my interiors. So being a city girl, modern with warmer neutrals and cozy textures is the way to go. Stay tuned for my Den reveal as well as I recently completed this area in my home!

MIXING INTERIOR DESIGN STYLES - TRENDING: MODERN TRADITIONAL INTERIORS

When incorporating different interior design styles in your home, choose a dominant style and an accent one (or two). I like to use the 70-30 rule. Examples of this can include: 70% Modern & 30% Traditional Vintage, one of my absolute favourite style combinations. You get the clean lines, minimalist feel, with lots of neutrals and higher contrast, with a mix of timeless pieces that feel homey and more lived in. This combination looks absolutely beautiful! Check out some of my favourites Modern Traditional living and dining rooms below:

This moody living room is a great blend of these two styles. The straight, clean lines of the sectional and coffee table give the space that modern feel while the traditional chandelier gives the room the necessary and surprising touch of character. The rug adds vintage warmth and compliments the blend of these two styles.

This grand living room showcases a black, oversized, streamlined coffee table, grounding the space and instantly making it feel dramatic. The vintage art collection adds character and helps to soften the room. The sofa, although modern shape, is a slipcover which instantly makes it feel cozier and more relaxed. Side note: How gorgeous is the distressed mirror above the fireplace?!

Let’s move on to some fabulous dining rooms shall we.

The wooden dining table and chairs offer clean lines while the end chairs provide that touch of traditional curved character. Mixed with yet another traditional chandelier (which are trending right now by the way!), this dining room marries modern and traditional so subtly.

This high contrast black and white dining room offers mostly traditional components but the lack of colour keeps it looking cool and minimalist. The curved slipcovered chairs paired with the rustic dining table compliment the modern rug, artwork and chandelier.
