My Condo Upgrades
As some of you may know, I’m currently living in sunny Miami, Florida. My boyfriend and I have been here since this past November. We decided to get away from the cold winters up in Toronto, except apparently this year the winter wasn’t even that cold! Even though we’ve been away I’m glad that it hasn’t been too cold for my friends and family, it can get so miserable up there and our winters seem to last for so long!
Ok enough of the chit chat, let’s get to the point, because that’s why you’re here haha! I wanted to start a little series that is a bit different than my regular blogs.
Something a little more personal. I want to take you along with me while I upgrade parts of my Toronto condo.
I’ll give you a little history of what happened and how I’m going to be putting in lots of work into it when I get back, which is in a month’s time. We live in a 2 bed 2 bath + den. Before moving to Florida, we decided to use the master bedroom as one of our offices and have the other room as our actual bedroom. My boyfriend Mark thought that the actual master bedroom was too loud at night because we’re right next to the highway, which is understandable, but it made our home kind of dysfunctional in terms of space and usage. Plus, the smaller room with our King bed in it was just so crammed and got super stuffy at night! It was seriously not working and we needed a change.
After convincing him to give it a try and move the bed from the small room into the original master, he ended up liking it better and doesn’t even mind the noise anymore. I’m happy he came to his senses haha! It only took a year and a half of having poor sleeps. Oh well.
So now I have a new office to decorate since it is in absolute chaos at the moment, we didn’t organize it before we left because we decided to change it up so last minute.
I’m also going to be redoing our den, and here’s why. We were using our den as another office space + console table area, and we were ok with that because the other office was on the opposite side of the condo. Now that we switched those rooms, we have two offices right beside each other and it’s just going to look super silly. PLUS, I never really liked having a desk in the den, as I wanted the space to be another place to lounge and relax in. I also wanted it to be more welcoming since it is the first room we pass when we come home.
As some of you may know, my SO also works from home, so having spaces to work is essential for us, that’s why we had 2 offices in our condo in the first place. I could never work on the couch, I need my dedicated work space to really concentrate. Now that we’re down to only one office plus the kitchen area to work, we may need to go out to café’s more or get a co-working space, we’ll see when the time comes for that!
I’m also going to be selling a lot of furniture in the next few months, so we’ll make some money off that and have the space to replace with new furnishings.
Here’s the game plan for the two rooms that I have, and this might change when the time comes but I am excited for you guys to see the process, I’m even going to make MYSELF concept boards. I feel that for me, it’s the easiest way to visualize a space and make sure that everything looks cohesive and put together.
Den Changes:
- Sell desk
- New love seat or 2 arm chairs
- Martini table
- Large black and white gallery wall
- New painting above console table
Office Changes:
- Declutter
- Sideboard/credenza
- Lamp
- Vases/décor
- Painting
If any of you are wondering why I’m not putting a bookcase in the office, it’s because I’m trying to minimize clutter and hide as much stuff as I can. Sometimes bookcases can look really messy and because all my books have all these different coloured covers, it will not look as clean and crisp as I want it to be. I’m honestly so excited to get a credenza in because right now my books are stored in my closet and that is so not right!
Thanks for coming along with me and being part of the beginning stages of my condo upgrade! Be sure to subscribe so that you can get notified of new blog posts and updates of my home.
I am super excited to see what the next few months will bring to my space, I want it to feel warm, and bright, loungey and comfortable, yet still sophisticated and chic.
Have a great rest of your week,
